February Book Haul - 9 Books

Hello everyone!

I am back with my latest book haul! This month I tried to cut back a little bit, and I am quite proud of myself for keeping my book buying under control!

Let's get to the books!

Volition by Lily Paradis

I really enjoyed this book! I did read it this month, but I also was part of the group of beta readers for this book. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who is looking for something a little different! I received this book from the author as a thank you, however all opinions are my own.

The Way We Bared Our Souls by Willa Strayhdorn

I also read this book this month, and thought it was just okay. It was different and I really liked the idea behind it, but I just couldn't connect fully to the story or the characters.

I Was Here by Gayle Forman

I don't know what it is about Gayle Forman's writing, but I just can't get into it. I tried reading If I Stay but I just thought it was juvenile and not really my cup of tea. I felt similarly with this story. I liked the concept but her writing just turned me off the story.

The Walled City by Ryan Graudin

Also read this one in February, I really liked it. It was a change of pace from the usual dystopian/romantic contemporary and I quite enjoyed that. I would definitely recommend this one as well!

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

I am currently reading this one, but I am finding it to be a mix of Throne of Glass and Shadow and Bone.

Breathe by Abbi Glines

I picked up a bunch of Abbi Glines' books from Book Outlet and needed this one to start the series off.

The Vincent Brothers by Abbi Glines

Similarly, I got the first one off of Book Outlet and wanted to continue the duology.

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin

I've already read this book, but I took it out of the library and wanted to own my own copy.

The Shock of the Fall by Nathan Filer

I have been wanting to pick this book up for a while, the premise just sounded really interesting!

So there you have it! My February book haul!

Top 5 Wednesday - Friend Groups You Want To Be Part Of

Hello everyone!

I am back again with another Top 5 Wednesday! Check out the Goodreads group for more info!

Now technically, this is last weeks topic, but I didn't have my computer last week and I like this topic better than the current one, so here we go!

5. Ignite Me (Kenji)

Ok, so Kenji isn't a 'group' exactly, but he is stinkin' funny! I would love to hang out with him and just let him talk for the whole time!

4. Looking For Alaska (Miles, Lara, Chip, Takumi, and Alaska)

This gang is pretty funny, even though they face a lot of problems among them.

Source Unknown

3. Cress (Cinder, Kai, Scarlet, Wolf, Cress, and Thorne)

I have come to love all of these characters, however if I was to pick a favourite, it would have to be Captain Thorne! He is just so hilarious sometimes!

2. Paper Towns (Q, Ben, Radar, Lacey, Angela and Margo)

This is one of my favourite books, so of course I needed to include the gang in my list!

1. The Darkest Minds (Liam, Ruby, Chubs, and Zu)

Last, but most certainly not least, these crazy, hilarious bunch of teens, circa living in a minivan and of course minus Clancy!

So there you have it! My top 5 friend groups!

TBR Tuesday - Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

Hello everyone!

I am back with another TBR Tuesday! I haven't done one of theses in a long time, too long to be perfectly honest. However, I am here now, so lets do this!

If you are new to the blog, TBR Tuesday is where I post about the book I am currently reading, and what I am planning on reading next.

A few days ago, I picked up Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard. I am only a little over 100 pages in but I am really enjoying it!

It has some Throne of Glass vibes, mixed with a little bit of Shadow and Bone, which are two really great fantasy series I have loved!

Next, I am thinking I want to pick up either The Mime Order or Half Bad.

What are you reading?

Monday Reviews - Both of Me by Jonathan Friesen

Hello everyone!

I am back with another Monday Reviews! This week, I am reviewing Both of Me by Jonathan Friesen. I was sent this book in exchange of an honest review by BookLook Bloggers.

As always, let's start with the synopsis:

It was supposed to be just another flight, another escape into a foreign place where she could forget her past, forget her attachments. Until Clara found herself seated next to an alluring boy named Elias Phinn—a boy who seems to know secrets she has barely been able to admit to herself for years.

When her carry-on bag is accidentally switched with Elias’s identical pack, Clara uses the luggage tag to track down her things. At that address she discovers there is not one Elias Phinn, but two: the odd, paranoid, artistic, and often angry Elias she met on the plane, who lives in an imaginary world of his own making called Salem; and the kind, sweet, and soon irresistible Elias who greets her at the door, and who has no recollection of ever meeting Clara at all. As she learns of Elias’s dissociative identity disorder, and finds herself quickly entangled in both of Elias’s lives, Clara makes a decision that could change all of them forever. She is going to find out what the Salem Elias knows about her past, and how, even if it means playing along with his otherworldly quest. And she is going to find a way to keep the gentle Elias she’s beginning to love from ever disappearing again.

Ok, lets first talk about the concept of this book. I found it very intriguing. Clara is on the run, not from the law, just to get away from her family. Elias, who we discover quite quickly has a DID of some sort, which leads to his creation of new worlds.

This book was very much a finding yourself story and I loved that you never knew what was happening next, where they were headed.

I did have a little bit of a problem distinguishing the age of the characters. I found that Elias especially felt like a 13 year old boy. I don't know if its because of his playful lifestyle or the fact that the synopsis refers to him as a 'boy' in the sense that he is a lot younger than Clara.

Overall, I enjoyed it. It wasn't at all what I was expecting, but I liked that. I gave it 4/5 stars on Goodreads.
