I am back with another Monday Reviews! This week, I am reviewing Clipped Wings by Helena Hunting.
Most times, New Adult is just about the romance and steamy scenes. I was pleasantly surprised with Clipped Wings, because it did have the romance and physical connection between the character, but they are also so broken and it really gave depth to the story.
I won't get into too many details, because they are major spoilers but you can really connect with Hayden and Tenley, they both have overcome difficult pasts, leaving them both physically and emotionally scarred.
This book does touch briefly on mental illness, enough so that I wanted to talk about it a little bit in the review. Hayden deals with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, or OCD, brought on by a horrific childhood experience, and Tenley struggles with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, PTSD, from an event in her past that she cannot forget.
Together, Hayden and Tenley try to help mend each other and move on emotionally.
There were quite a few mini sub-plot stories that weren't really cleared up in this book, I'm hoping we will get some answers in the next book, and just a forewarning, there is a bit of a cliffhanger ending, so I would maybe pick up the second book before starting this one.
Overall, I loved this book. It was deep, meaningful and intriguing. Once you pick it up, you won't want to put it down!
