Monday Reviews - The Dark Days Club by Alison Goodman

Hello everyone!

Today I am reviewing The Dark Days Club by Alison Goodman! Thanks so much to Penguin Random House for sending me a copy of this book to review, all opinons are my own!

Starting this book, I didn't really know what it was about. I knew it was going to be a historical novel, but not much else than that. Overall, I quite enjoyed this book. I don't really have a lot of experience with historical novels, this one being set in the 1800s, but I enjoyed it nonetheless!

The first little bit, not much happens. But the day to day events were interesting enough for me to keep reading. One thing is very clear, the author did her research. There is a whole section in the back of the book with references to real life events that happened at that time, places that they went to really existed. I think for me, that dedication and attention to detail (although who am I trying to kid, I would not be able to verify any of the facts myself) that really brings this book to the next level.

Once the story picks up, I did get more into it. Looking back now, there are a few little things that I still don't understand, but nothing that takes a lot away from the story.

I will say that I had no clue that this was about demon hunting. And I'm almost glad. Goodman doesn't explicitly say what the creatures are, and maybe if you're a little more perceptive than me (or even if you read the synopsis!) then you would see the demon aspect, but they were just kind of left to be whatever you wanted them to be. Like I said before, I'm almost happy I didn't know they were hunting demons, because all I could have pictured were demons a là Supernatural and I definitely did not get that vibe from these 1812 demons.

ANYWAYS, despite my confusion and the fact that this book is almost 500 pages, it only took me a day to read. I flew through it easily and I really enjoyed it!

I would definitely recommend this book if you are into historical/fantasy/demon! And even if you're not, pick it up anyway! I'm look forward to book two!
