So because of my blog tour post for The Winner's Kiss, I had to bump my TBR Tuesday post to today! I didn't want to leave it out of this week because there are a ton of great books out this week!
After the Woods by Kim Savage
I was able to read an eARC of this book back in November, and my full review will be posted next Monday, but I will say that I didn't love this book. I didn't hate it either though. I just felt confused at the end, and I felt like because we learn fairly early on that the alleged predator dies in his jail cell, there wasn't much suspense in this book. It was mainly the psychological dynamic of being attacked, which, while interesting, wasn't what I was expecting. Overall, good but not great.
Firstlife by Gena Showalter
While this book has some very mixed reviews on Goodreads, the premise seems interesting. I haven't even read it and already having existential questions popping into my head about whether or not this "life" is just the pre-show to the real life after you die. The first in a series, this book sounds very intriguing!
Titans by Victoria Scott
I have to say, this book sounds very interesting. Some have said it sounds similar to The Scorpio Races and upon reading say that it is similar and different. I think it sounds very unique, not having read The Scorpio Races myself. Also, another interesting aspect of this book is that there is no romance. Scott said that she wanted to focus solely on the themes of friendship, family and trust without a romance getting in the way. I think this alone makes this book very intriguing!
Thanks for the Trouble by Tommy Wallach
After reading Wallach's debut novel only recently, I have to say, I am very excited for this book. There's been some speculation about Zelda, whether she is a "manic pixie dream girl," which is a term I had to look up, and according to good ol' Wikipedia is "that bubbly, shallow cinematic creature that exists solely in the fevered imaginations of sensitive writer-directors to teach broodingly soulful young men to embrace life and its infinite mysteries and adventures." Although some of the reviews say there is way more to the story, so you don't really get to dwell on that. I don't know, I still think it looks good!
The Last Place on Earth by Carol Snow
Another book I got the privilege of reading this book in advance, my review is posted here if you want to hear more of my thoughts, but overall, I didn't love it. I think because I was expecting some sort of gripping thriller where a girl saves her kidnapped friend, and what I actually got was a doomsday prepper novel. Nope.
A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab
I also got to read an eARC of this book as well. My review was just posted on Monday, you can read it here, but I will say that I really enjoyed this book, and I think I liked it even more than the first one!
So there you have it! This week's newest releases!
